The PE Classroom is now part of Classroom 42 — bringing the PE expertise, resources and learning tools teachers value into one growing platform for secondary education.
The name and location have changed. The commitment to outstanding PE teaching has not.
What was The PE Classroom?
The PE Classroom began with a simple frustration. Teachers were spending too much time searching for resources, preparing lessons and marking work. That time that could be better spent supporting their students.
Its founder, Tom Southall, first had the idea while working as a PE teacher. Ahead of a move from Birmingham to Abu Dhabi, where he would teach GCSE and A Level PE, he found himself gathering resources and information from numerous different places.
When new specifications arrived and few suitable resources were available, Tom began creating his own booklets and lesson materials. During a trip to the Philippines in 2016, he started planning an online home where PE teachers could access and share high-quality resources more easily.
That idea became The PE Classroom.
Initially built around Tom’s teaching commitments, the platform grew through regular resources, weekly starters, webinars and conversations with PE teachers. What began as a resource website gradually became something more important: a trusted source of subject-specific guidance and support.
Its purpose was clear from the beginning:
Reduce teacher workload. Improve teaching. Help students achieve more.
Built by teachers, shaped by teachers
The PE Classroom was never designed as a generic content library.
Its resources were created around the realities of teaching examination PE. Different specifications, limited planning time, demanding assessment requirements and the need to keep students engaged.
As the platform developed, it introduced new ways for teachers to plan, assess and support learning. From exam-board-specific resources and weekly starters to quizzes, assessments and the Examinator.
Just as importantly, teachers knew there were real people behind the platform. Responsiveness, trust, community, innovation and excellence became its core values because they were already visible in how the team worked.
The impact of The PE Classroom
In our 2026 member survey:
88% of respondents said they were very or extremely familiar with The PE Classroom.
80% described it as very or extremely important to their teaching.
Teachers most strongly associated it with being PE-specialist, teacher-friendly, easy to use and exam-focused.
73% said retaining PE expertise was the most important consideration in bringing PE Classroom and Classroom 42 together.

That feedback reinforced something we already knew. Teachers valued the platform not only for its resources, but because it understood PE.
Why has The PE Classroom moved to Classroom 42?
The success of The PE Classroom created the foundations for a bigger idea.
Classroom 42 takes the same teacher-led approach and applies it across secondary education. Bringing PE into Classroom 42 allows us to invest in one stronger platform rather than dividing development across separate systems.
This is an evolution of The PE Classroom — not a move away from what made it successful.
What does the move mean for PE teachers?
The same PE specialism
PE continues to be developed with the same subject expertise, exam focus and understanding of teachers’ needs. PE is not being turned into generic, one-size-fits-all content.
More powerful learning tools
Teachers and students can access PE resources alongside interactive quizzes, assessment activities and tools such as the Examinator — helping students practise more and receive useful feedback sooner.
Less time spent planning and marking
Classroom 42 is built around the original purpose of The PE Classroom: reducing unnecessary workload while improving the quality of teaching, revision and assessment.
A simpler experience for schools
Housing PE and other subjects within Classroom 42 gives schools a more joined-up platform, with the potential to support several departments rather than adding another disconnected system.

A single platform allows our educational, product and development teams to focus their time more effectively. That means a stronger technical foundation, more consistent improvements and new tools that can benefit PE teachers and students.

Classroom 42 gives schools access to a growing range of secondary subjects, while each subject remains built around its own curriculum, specifications and teaching requirements.
The next chapter
The PE Classroom started with one teacher trying to make lesson preparation easier. It grew because thousands of teachers and students found value in that idea.
Classroom 42 is the next stage of that journey: a broader and more powerful platform, built on the same belief that technology should make teachers’ lives easier and help students succeed.
The PE Classroom’s home has changed. Its purpose has not.
